It was hard to go wrong when these three paintings walked in the door. The window at 23rd Street was as big as any in the city and I was always trying to maximize that impact.
From 1998 - 2003 I created hundreds of windows for the Housing Works Thrift Shops, the upscale thrift store fighting homelessness and AIDS. For me it was personal. I had lost two brothers to AIDS. Vincent had been a display artist himself and I learned my craft in his studio. Every day of work was an opportunity to honor my brother's life and genius and a chance to discover my own, all while fighting the disease that killed him. I've never had a better job in my life. - Matthew Aquilone
